Your Questions Answered

Here you can find answers to frequently asked questions. If you cannot find the answer, feel free to contact us via email or phone.

Why is a consultation and patch test so important before you start laser hair removal sessions?

A consultation and patch test is the most important part of your treatment course. Your hair colour and density need to be checked before you start to ensure you are a suitable candidate for treatment.

In order to establish how many sessions you will need for laser hair removal we will need to see you for assessment.

Any underlying health/hormonal issues will be discussed so you fully understand how your results may vary.

Laser hair treatment will only be performed when it is safe to do so. We put your safety first always so please ensure you contact us for any advice you may need.

Can I go in the sun before/after laser?

Sun must be avoided before laser sessions. It is important that you do not have a tan as tanned skin is very sensitive and can result in a laser burn.

You may go into the sun and safely tan 48 hours after your laser session.

Antibiotics

You cannot have laser if you are on antibiotics. Antibiotics may increase photosensitivity. As such if you become ill and start taking an antibiotic, you will need to be off the medication for at least 7 days before laser treatment.

How long after a holiday can I attend laser?

We must ensure your tan is completely faded and your skin has returned to its original colour before your laser session. If you attend your session with a tan your therapist will not perform the treatment and you will be booked for a later date.

Generally speaking, we recommend a 3 week gap between your last exposure to sun and your laser session. However, if your therapist feels you are still tanned your appointment will be postponed to a later date.

Is laser effective on blonde/white hairs?

Blonde/white hair does not have enough pigment to attract the laser's heat as such, patients with blonde/white hairs are not good candidates for laser hair removal.

Will pregnancy after laser hair removal reverse my results?

During and after pregnancy it is not uncommon to see hair growth in new areas of the body. Hair growth patterns change while pregnant so it's important to know that you may experience new hair growth. Generally, this is temporary, but some women find that unwanted hair remains due to hormones and re-start their laser treatment.

Can I continue/start laser during Pregnancy?

Laser hair removal is NOT suitable for those expecting.

Is it safe to have laser hair removal while breast-feeding?

Laser hair removal is not recommended in the initial months after birth. During this time hormone levels will be adjusting back to their normal levels. It's important to allow the body to rest during these months.

Some women choose to breast-feed for a long period of time so in this instance we would recommend not treating the breast or areola areas while having treatment. Other areas of the body could be treated approximately 6 months after baby has arrived.

Laser Hair Removal Aftercare

Follow these essential aftercare steps to ensure the best results from your laser hair removal treatment.

1. Redness & Bumps are normal

Immediately after your treatment, redness & bumps at the treatment area are common; these may last up to 2 hours or longer. It is normal for the treated area to feel sensitive. You should use a cold compress if the sensitivity continues. Apply aloe-vera gel to soothe the skin, this will help calm the skin and increase skins healing time. Darker pigmented skin may have more discomfort than lighter skin & may persist longer.

2. Do not use any water on skin for 4 hours after treatment

The treated area may be washed gently with a mild soap. Skin should be patted dry & not rubbed during the first 48 hours.

3. No makeup & lotion/moisturizer/deodorant for the first 24 hours

Keep the treated area clean & dry, if further redness or irritation persists, skip your makeup & moisturizer, & deodorant (for underarms) until the irritation has subsided. Use aloe-vera gel.

4. Dead hairs will begin to shed approximately 14 days after your treatment

Stubble, representing dead hair being shed from the hair follicle, will approximately appear within 14 days from the treatment date. That is normal & they will fall out quickly.

5. Exfoliate to speed up hair shedding

Anywhere from 14 days after the treatment, shedding of the hair may occur & this may appear as new hair growth. It is not new hair growth, but the dead hair pushing its way out of the follicle. You can help the hair come out by exfoliating with a loofah or exfoliating glove.

6. Avoid the sun

Avoid sun exposure to reduce the chance of dark or light spots for 2 months. Use sunscreen (SPF 25 or higher) at all times throughout the treatment period & for 1-2 months following.

7. Do not pick/scratch/wax/thread/tweeze the area

Avoid picking or scratching the treated skin. Do not use any other hair removal methods or products, other than shaving, on the treated area during the course of your laser treatments, as it will prevent you from achieving the best results.

8. Hair growth varies

On average, most will experience a level of hairless happiness after 6-8 sessions which will result in not even checking for stubble (yes, it's life changing!) others may need more sessions.
